Dictator Virus

Dictator Virus

Overview:
For my master's thesis at Pratt Institute, I explored the impact of graphic political communication tools, focusing on visual repetition and semantic satiation. These tools can shape public opinion: visual repetition builds support among target groups, while semantic satiation disrupts and diminishes the intended message's power.

My Role:
• Research & Analysis: Studied how visual repetition and semantic satiation influence political messaging and public perception.
• Biomimicry Investigation: Drew parallels between nature and political propaganda, analyzing how viruses mirror the characteristics of dictators.
• Thesis Development: Synthesized findings into a comprehensive thesis, showcasing the dynamics between visual strategies and their psychological effects.-

The use of code allowed the design to be infinite and dynamic, in order to duplicate itself every time the mouse was moved. Slogans and famous words used by Venezuelas Dictator Hugo Chavez were utilized in this experiment.

"Coat of Harms" :  Using the Venezuelan emblema and well-known doctrines used by the Chavez Regime, visuals were created based on the original emblema, making variations of the main symbol used by Venezuela's founders.

Final Form

Like dictators, viruses compete, attack, overthrow, and most importantly, they invade.

I understand there is plenty to research, and much more experimentation needs to be done in this field. However, I must leave you with this thought, what would happen if we treat dictators as we treat viruses?
