The Venezuela Project

As a Venezuelan designer, I feel obligated to create meaningful pieces that reflect and communicate my country's current situation. I dedicated most of my MFA developing projects that would help bring awareness to the Venezuelan crisis. I feel in my heart this is my responsibility as a designer.

our food scarcity | website

What do you expect when you type in: "venezuelansupermarkets" in your browser? Advertisements for a particular shop? Possible online grocery shopping locations? Reality is, Venezuela is going through the biggest food and product scarcity ever seen in history. In this particular project, I wanted to show the empty Venezuelans supermarket shelves using a simple grid and a even simpler action.

The website also allows visitors to download the following Zine, where every item Venezuelans supermarkets are currently missing or starting to disappear.

political animations | instagram account

During the tragic Venezuelan protests, I decided to open an Instagram account and illustrated the frustration of the Venezuelan people. The posts were reposted by influential and famous political leaders and news outlets.

the chiquita banana remix | stickers

While researching old advertisements, I stumbled upon the well-known Chiquita Banana Manifesto, which highlighted the importance of the famous "Chiquita Sticker." The manifesto explained the reason why every banana had a sticker, because each one was especially handpicked and handled with care.

At the same time, the elections for the Venezuelan Constituent Assembly were taking place in my country. It was no surprise our current Regime decided to shamelessly handpick their candidates regardless of their corrupt past. They won. Nevertheless, as a designer, I wanted to release and show my frustrations in a creative and effective way by bringing awareness, simultaneously.
